This is a season for plowing and seeding, when everything has been revived. After 2 months of busy and yet orderly installation and debugging, Kaishan’s large ORC expander test desk designed by Kaishan General Machine Research Institute and constructed and manufactured by Shanghai Kaishan Energy Equipment Co., Ltd. has officially been in operation for testing expanders.

In recent years, Kaishan screw expander power generation technology has initiated totally new business models and technological innovation at high levels. For instance, Kaishan ORC expander power generation units have solved the chronic problem of low grade heat source such as wasted steam heat and waste water not being able to be utilized, resulting in its application in the steel, concrete, chemical engineering, and geothermal industries to convert low grade energy into high quality electrical energy. The purpose of Shanghai Kaishan Energy’s almost 10 million RMB investment in such a large scale test desk is to ensure ORC power generation units’ reliability of operation and to make sure that no defective unit is taken out to the markets. The power driving the expander being tested is from centrifugal compressors independently designed and manufactured by Kaishan. The electricity generated by the tested expander generation unit is sent to the power grid through grid connection, thus avoiding waste of electricity and reducing the unit’s electricity consumption. The test desk is sufficient to test Kaishan’s largest expander generation unit having a power capacity of 3MV. The test desk simulates on-site operation conditions to monitor and test necessary test items on site such as the expander’s inlet and outlet pressures and temperatures, oil pipeline system’s pressure and temperature, flow data, expander vibration, etc. The test desk’s successful commissioning and operation means that large power capacity expanders above and including SKYe192 can have tests done before factory exit, making sure that no unqualified products will be taken out to market.
