At 1500 hours on July 22, 2016, newly-elected Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte visited the biomass energy power generation plant in Buluan in southern Philippines. The plant is notable for using power generation technology and equipment supplied by Kaishan (stock code 300257). In his speech President Duterte said that industrial and civilian power supply in Philippines has always been in short supply, a fact that significantly hampered Philippines’ economic growth. Therefore, in order to push for industrialization, the nation would first have to develop power-generation projects. At present the majority of power generation plants in Philippines are powered by coal, oil, water, natural gas and geothermal energy. As resources like coal will ultimately be depleted, Philippines should devote her effort on developing power-generation projects using recyclable energy such as biomass energy and geothermal energy. The President is therefore highly interested in Kaishan’s project. In his speech he also expressed his wish to be on friendly terms with China, and he hoped that China would aid Philippines in her economic development.
The biomass energy power generation plant located in Buluan city in Maguindanao (full name: Green Earth Enersource Corporation, Poblacion, Buluan, Maguindanao, Philippines) uses entirely screw expansion power-generation technology and equipment sets from Kaishan (stock code: 300257). The first such biomass power plant in Philippines, it mainly uses combustion of oil palm residues and some farm straws to generate power. Since Philippines is located in the Tropics and is a major agricultural nation, it would be a waste if straws produced in considerable volume each year are not put to good use. They also pollute the environment. In addition they would be capable of providing considerable power to the local region. The project has a designed capacity of 3,330KW, generating net output of 2,769KW. Construction was in its final stages, and trial operation was expected in the near future.
Buluan, Maguindanao that “if we are able to resolve our dispute with the Chinese, I believe we will benefit greatly, the rulings of the arbitral tribunal notwithstanding.”
In any case the President stressed that any dialog would be unrelated to Philippines’ relinquishment of her rights over her waters.
He said: “It is not that we will give it up. They will come here and I promise I will build an economic zone for our industrialization.”
He added: “I really hope that we will be able to resolve this matter.”
